There's a romantic and slightly superstitious story that if you kiss under the West Engine arch at the University of Michigan at midnight, you will end up marrying that person. After sharing a kiss there in 2015, Tiffany and Garrett got engaged in the very same place in 2021. I had the pleasure of photographing their wedding this summer at their home in Ortonville, Michigan.
After getting ready and sharing a first look together, they had an intimate wedding ceremony in a clearing surrounded by woods, just behind their home. One of the groom's closest friends officiated their wedding. We then explored a bit of their beautiful property and took photos of them as newlyweds in the forest. At one point we ran into their chickens and they had to corral one of them back into the coup. It was cute!
What started off as a sunny day in the morning, turned overcast and eventually, it rained quite heavily. The rain only made their wedding more romantic as it produced a rainbow and a gorgeous sunset. Luckily they had a clear outdoor dining tent with string lights for their wedding reception. The speeches had everyone in tears—I was moved by how much their friends and family love them. Below are some of my favorite moments from this romantic and rainy backyard wedding.
